Rio Vista PTA presents the first assembly of the year with a John Abrams presentation about bullying on Friday, Sept. 4 at 8:45 a.m. and 9:45 a.m. in Hugger Hall.

The presentation presents the Bully Game, a program that's truly a game show with prizes for the winners. Rio Vista students are the contestants, the entire audience is involved and everyone learns valuable lessons about preventing bullying.

Through magic, music and a bit of mayhem, students will learn:
* The difference between friendly teasing and taunting
* How gossip works and why it's such a monster
* When's a good time to "tell" and when it's simply "tattling"
* How to be a good "witness" (not just a bystander)
* When and how to use assertive words to repel the bully
* How to keep their own self respect, even when things go badly
* How we can all work together to prevent this problem.

"This assembly will not only be informative for students, but will be presented in an innovative and fun way for the students," said __________ Sorrentino, PTA co-president.

PTA wants to help students understand how to protect themselves against student who bully, the correct steps of action to take and provide information on why bullying is unacceptable.

"It is so important to have this type of assembly at the first of the year to set a tone of zero tolerance for students," Sorrentino said. "Unfortunately students bully for reason or another, providing information on why students might bully may change their behavior and see the damage it can cause to other students. We aim for a bully free learning environment."
