Hart Park plans out year's events

Experience the Old West's Hart at the William S. Hart Regional Park and Museum, 24151 Newhall Avenue, Newhall 91321.

William S. Hart, also known as "Two Gun Bill," was the first cowboy movie star during the silent film era. He made more than 70 silent movies from 1914 to 1925. He donated his sprawling ranch for the public to enjoy. The park features Hart's home which is now a museum filled with his personal effects and movie paraphernalia, along with Native American artifacts and Western American art.

The park is open daily 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. from mid-June to early September and 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. from early September to mid- June.

The museum has free docent-led tours year round 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday to Friday from early September to mid June with the last tour at 12:30 pm and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday with the last tour at 3:30 p.m.

From mid June to early September tours run Wednesday to Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. with the last tour at 3:30 p.m.

The facility includes such things as:
* Barnyard Zoo - Featuring 70 birds and animals, such as wild boar, a herd of American Bison (Buffalo), deer, cow, rabbits and potbelly pigs.

* Hart Residence/Museum and Historic Ranch. 

* Hiking and equestrian trails.

* Group camping and group picnics.

* Hart Hall- A large facility for meetings, parties Weddings/receptions, community gatherings.

* Bunk House - A great place for scout meetings receptions and special events.

Heritage Junction Historic Park
* Heritage Junction, home to 19th century Saugus Railroad Station and many historical
buildings from old Newhall is also located in Hart Park. Tours of the train station are given by the Santa Clarita Valley Historical Society.
Hours: 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m., Saturdays and Sundays.

* 1900 Mogul Engine #1629, a class M4 train,weighing 75 tons.

* Six other historic building have been moved to Heritage Junction. From the six pew 1927 Ramona Chapel to the 1860 Mitchell House Adobe. All in various stages of restoration.

Santa Clarita Cowboy Festival
April 23 - 27, 2010
This annual Santa Clarita festival features ongoing street shows: Western Music, Cowboy Poetry, Film Festival and several Hart Park events- TBD

"2nd Annual Art ‘n the Park"
June 5, 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
On the picnic grounds of Wm. S. Hart Park. Music, Arts ‘n Craft fair, Quilt Show, all media fine arts show, food and family Karaoke in the park.

Silents Under the Stars"
August 14, 6:00 p.m.
On the lawns of Hart Mansion & Museum. A showing of a Bill Hart silent movie with live musical accompaniment, tour and a delicious dinner.

"2nd Annual Music ‘n the Park"
Sundays -September 5th, 12th, 19th, 2:00 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.
On the picnic grounds of Wm. S. Hart Park, Latin Music Sunday, Pop Music Sunday, Blues & Jazz Sunday, Disc Jockey, Bands. Snack and Arts & Craft vendors.

American Indian Pow Wow

September 25-26
Experience the Native American culture through enchanting music, arts and crafts, colorful dancers, drummers, exhibits and contests. Free event.

Bow Wows & Meows Pet Adoption Fair
October 11, 11:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Dog show, pet adoptions, rescue agencies, entertainment, food, games, education. Free.

Art Classic XX "United By Art"
October 17-18
Sat: public viewing at 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Sunday: Gala at 2:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m., afternoon of fine art, live entertainment, hors d'oeuvres, banquet, live & silent auctions.

Pumpkin Festival & Heritage Haunt
October 24, 11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
At Hart's picnic grounds, pumpkin carving, hayrides, Ghost Hunter's show, Museum bug
show, Nature Center animal show, various children's shows, the 6 p.m. Newhall Zombie Walk, 7 p.m. Heritage Haunt Dance. Heritage Haunted House - weekends October 17th - 31st.

Wild West Roses Rose Show
November 7, 12:30 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Hundreds of fragrant rose specimens on display. Hybrids, floribundas, miniatures, climbers
and antique roses. Awards, ribbons and crystal giftware as prizes.

Cowboys and Carols
December 4, 6:00 p.m. - 9 p.m.
Hart Museum/Mansion, dinner, Museum tours and entertainment.
