Community Safety - The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, Santa Clarita Valley Station, will host two Community Safety Programs at separate locations. The first event will be held Monday, May 12 from 7 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. at College of the Canyons (26455 Rockwell Canyon Road) in Aliso Hall, Room 101. The second event will be held on Thursday, May 15 from 7 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. in the multipurpose room at Castaic Elementary School, 30455 Park Vista Drive in Castaic. Boys' Night Out

Super Jazz
- The Super Jazz Festival and Competition, hosted by West Ranch High School, will be held on May 17 from 9 a.m. - 8 p.m. Tickets are $5 for all-day admission. Thirty-three schools will be in competition. West Ranch High School is located at 26255 West Valencia Blvd., Stevenson Ranch. Professional jazz musician performances and clinics will be held as well. Photo Competition - The Santa Clarita Valley Photographers Association is has about 75 members, many of whom will be at the group's annual print competition on May 17 from 5 p.m. - 8 p.m. at the Bridgeport Lake Club, 27002 Edgewater Lane in Valencia. There will be over 100 prints on display, live jazz and valet parking. From 9 a.m. - noon that same day, all of those prints will be judged by a panel of pros and the public is welcome to watch and listen. Registration for this fall's AYSO soccer season is underway for Newhall, Valencia, Stevenson Ranch and surrounding areas. Lilac Festival
On Saturday and Sunday, May 17 and 18, the 26th annual Lilac Festival will celebrate spring's arrival in the alpine village of Pine Mountain Club in the Frazier Park area. It's a weekend of music, arts and crafts, good food and children's activities for all ages. And, yes, there will be blooming lilacs. The event kicks-off at 11 a.m. on Saturday morning with a, followed by the dramatic arrival of a team of acrobatic skydivers parachuting onto the golf course. Throughout the weekend, a variety of food and arts and crafts (more than 100 vendors) will be available in the village, as will children's activities. Entertainment will take place each day in the village gazebo and the pavilion outside Madd Bailey's Pub. Helicopter rides, offering a bird's eye view of the mountain and valley area, will take off from the pad near the fire station. For information contact Mark Bailey at (661) 242-8810.

SCV Computer Club
The 6 p.m. session of the May 14 meeting of the SCV Computer Club will feature a trip down memory lane with a look at computer equipment from the past. Newer technology will then be demonstrated by Bruce McFarland as he shows attendees how easy it is to start and maintain a blog using World Press and associated themes and plug-ins. Mike McCort from CSI, Cyber Specialists International (Data Recovery and Computer Forensics specialists), will talk about computer forensics during the 7 p.m. portion of the meeting. Spirit Games
Special Olympics Santa Clarita Valley will host its 7th annual Spirit Games on Saturday, May 17. Over 700 athletes from Southern California will compete at various venues across the valley from approximately 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. This year's theme is "The Spirit of Joy." Competition will take place at these locations: basketball and Tennis at Hart High School, bocce in Newhall Park, basketball at the Newhall Boys and Girls Club, tennis and basketball at Placerita Junior High School. Dr. Mark Crear, two-time Olympian, motivational speaker and performance consultant will emcee this year's event. The opening ceremony, which starts promptly at 8:45 a.m., will include a parade of athletes and torch run by local law enforcement personnel. An Olympic Village will be open from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. at Newhall Park, with booths, games, music, and food available. These Spirit Games are open to the public at no charge. Wine for the Cure
During the month of May, Vino 100 is partnering with Hope Wine to raise awareness of women's health issues and engage people in the fight against breast cancer by offering an award-winning coastal California Chardonnay that benefits two great causes. With every purchase, Hope Wines donates 50 percent of its profits to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure. In addition, Vino 100 Valencia will donate 10 percent of Hope Wine Chardonnay sales during May to the Sheila R. Veloz Breast Imaging Center. Relay For Life

Mobile Solution Van
Mobile Solutions, a specialized van that brings Braille Institute's programs and services to people who are not able to go to the center in Los Angeles, will be making a stop at the Santa Clarita Senior Center, 22900 Market St., Newhall, on Tuesday, May 14 from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. Visitors can receive free low-vision consultations and learn more about receiving talking books almost immediately. COC Studio Jazz Ensemble Swings
On May 16, beginning at 7:30 p.m., the award-winning College of the Canyons Studio Jazz Ensemble will present a concert of popular and big band swing music. 'The Full Monty'
The Repertory East Playhouse will continue its Main Stage Series with the hit Broadway Musical "The Full Monty." There will be an opening night gala on Friday May 16, starting at 7 p.m., with the curtain at 8 p.m. The musical runs through June 14. Live Jazz

Golf Classic
The Frontier Toyota/Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital Drive Safe Golf Classic tournament returns to Valencia Country Club on May 17. The day of events, including a $50,000 grand prize Helicopter Golf Ball Drop, offers a wide array of team sponsorship and advertising opportunities to benefit emergency and trauma services at Henry Mayo. The second annual SCV Candlelight Vigil for the Military will be held on Saturday May 17 at 7:30 p.m. at the Veteran's Historical Plaza, 24275 Walnut St., in Newhall. Take part in nationwide candlelight vigil to honor our deployed troops and those who gave their lives serving our country. Paintball Fundraiser
Paintball USA, in conjunction with Blue Star Mothers of the Canyons, Chapter 82, of Santa Clarita, will be conducting a fundraiser on Armed Forces Day, Saturday May 17, from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Paintball USA is located at 34855 Petersen Road, Agua Dulce. Paintball USA will donate $10 to Blue Star Mothers of the Canyons for every individual who brings in a flyer and purchases a Paintball Admission Package on this date. Tennis Block Party
A Tennis Block Party will be held on Sunday May 18, at the Summit YMCA park and tennis courts, from noon until 4 p.m. The event is free to the public. Zonta Golf
Golf reservations and sponsorship opportunities are now available for the third annual Zonta Golf Tournament scheduled for Monday, May 19 at Robinson Ranch Golf Course. The tournament can accommodate up to 160 golfers. Sponsorships range from $5,000-title sponsor, to $2,000-eagle sponsors, $1,000-birdie sponsors and a $150-par sponsor. Individual golfers can register for $175 each, which includes golf cart, lunch on the course, a buffet awards ceremony at the end of the day and a gift bag. Consignment Sale
California Kids Consignment Sales will host their inaugural sales event at the Residence Inn Marriott Conference Center May 30 - June 1. Families with kids can make some money on gently used items their children have outgrown, such as toys, clothing, play equipment, and nursery items. Norman Krieger
As part of Congregation Beth Shalom's Distinguished Performance series, acclaimed pianist Norman Krieger will perform in an exclusive fundraising event at Krieger's private residence in Valencia on Saturday May 31 at 7 p.m. The event will include a reception with the artist from 7 p.m. - 8 p.m. and performance from 9 p.m. - 10 p.m. All guests will receive an autographed copy of Kringer's new CD, "Brahms Piano Concerto Number One." The fourth annual Santa Clarita Koi and Water Garden Tour will be held on Saturday June 7, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. It is sponsored by the Santa Clarita Koi and Water Garden Club. Civil War Day
Thousand Trails Preserve and the American Civil War Society present their annual Civil War Days at Thousand Trails preserve, 4700 Crow Valley Rd. in Acton on Saturday and Sunday June 7 and 8. Camps are open from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. on Saturday and from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. on Sunday. A period dance and gambling hall are scheduled at 7 a.m. on Saturday. The cost is $5 per person. The Supportive Services Department of the Santa Clarita Valley Senior Center is sponsoring a free morning symposium designed to provide assistance to the growing number of caregivers. This public service event takes place on Saturday June 28 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the SCV Senior Center, 22900 Market St. in Newhall. This half-day symposium will focus on caregiving issues to enable the attendee to learn new skills to help manage the stresses and frustrations of caregiving, how to reestablish control over their own lives, plan for the future, and manage difficult behaviors by loved ones.
