Valdes a no-brainer

I read an op-ed piece by Steve Lunetta in The Signal ("Uncle Earl stumps for Joe Messina," Sept. 7). He gave his support to a candidate for the Hart High School District Board who strongly supports building a high school in Castaic.

I'm glad to see that this candidate, as well as all the others, have agreed on the priority in this campaign.

Now that the argument is framed, I believe we should vote for the candidate or candidates who have not only talked the talk about Castaic but who have walked the walk.

That's why I'm backing Linda Valdes. Linda successfully chaired Measure SA, the $300 million bond that will help provide the funds to build the high school in Castaic. She did this last fall when the economy was tanking and there was much opposition.

She's also an outstanding teacher herself. I know. I've visited her classroom at Rio Vista Elementary School.

I'll admit that I'm part of Linda's campaign, but this seems like a no-brainer to me. If we all agree a high school needs to be build in Castaic, shouldn't we elect the person who has done the most to make it happen?
