Since 2005, the Santa Clarita Street Art Festival brought Newhall's Main Street to life with vivid artwork, color and design. This year, the event has been re-imagined to include a variety of artistic talent in countless media, with a focus on the process of art.

Old Town Newhall's newly redeveloped streetscape will serve as the picturesque backdrop for the Santa Clarita Festival of the Arts, taking place this weekend, Oct. 3 and 4, on Main Street between Lyons Avenue and 5th Street.

The Santa Clarita Festival of the Arts, sponsored by Lockheed Federal Credit Union, will showcase a spectrum of artistic talent in historic Old Town Newhall.

All weekend long, community members will be able to watch street painters as well as visual, digital and multimedia artists create works of art, from concept to the final masterpiece.

The festival, which is outdoors and completely free and open to the public, will feature a variety of artists creating artwork in media including woodcarving, "plein" air painting, sculptures, pottery, fine-art street painting and much more.

Live entertainment and fine arts and crafts vendors will also be on hand at the event for attendees to enjoy.

The most beloved aspects of past Street Art Festivals will remain in place. Watch color explode on Main Street when street painters use more than 5,400 pieces of pastels to paint masterpieces in the middle of the street.

The vibrant paintings will be available for viewing for 72 hours before they are washed away at the close of the event.

The Festival of the Arts will showcase other temporary artworks such as sculpture, pottery, mosaics, woodworking and installations.

An "Art on Canvas" gallery will display original pieces of artwork from Santa Clarita students and professional artists, with the opportunity for attendees to cast votes for their favorite "People's Choice" piece of artwork.

Relax and watch short films, compliments of Generation Arts, and participate in an audio scavenger hunt and a Sound Mice Maze.

A multimedia art area will be displayed to encompass techniques such as graphic design, film, digital and audio technology.

When not browsing, attendees can kick back at one of the intimate music stages adjacent to street painters and listen to duets and soloists, or rock out to alternative music by the "dirty car guy" as he removes dirt to discover a piece of art on the back of a car.

Festival visitors will be able to interact with artists and learn the history of the displayed pieces directly from their creators.

Santa Clarita's Festival of the Arts provides community members with the opportunity to view fantastic street painting and multiple art forms in one great location.

The entire family can enjoy the exciting community event Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Free parking will be available at the city's Newhall Community Center, located at 22421 Market Street, providing residents with the perfect opportunity to enjoy an amazing and memorable community event at no cost.
