Street painters, digital artists, woodcarvers, potters, sculptors and more will fashion feasts for the eyes Saturday and Sunday at the city of Santa Clarita’s Festival of the Arts.

The free outdoor festival, which is sponsored by Lockheed Federal Credit Union, will take place from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday along Main Street between Lyons Avenue and 5th Street.

The event does not only appeal to those with an artistic background.

“Art is for everybody, every age, every demographic,” said Jenni Shadle, festival director and the city’s arts and event coordinator. “And there’s a lot to do so people of every age could either participate in art, watch or listen to performances.”

Artists will reveal the process of their work from conception to the final masterpiece. The festival will also feature live entertainment, vendors and crafts.

“I think (the festival) brings art and community together,” Shadle said. “It really showcases not only street painters’ talents but also multimedia talents and demonstrations in woodworking, painting and visual arts.”

Shadle estimated about 300 street painters will demonstrate their creativity.

Today, La Quinta Inn and Suites will host sidewalk chalking for the community from noon to 6 p.m. to bring attention to the weekend festival.

Guests will have a space of sidewalk assigned to them and can create chalk designs for free. The event is open to hotel guests and local residents, free of charge. La Quinta, one of the festival’s sponsors, is located at 25201 The Old Road in Stevenson Ranch.

Main Street, located between Lyons Avenue and 5th Street, will be closed off to vehicle traffic for the weekend and reopened on Monday, Shadle said.
