Parents should embrace Obama speech

Parents are still complaining about President Obama’s speech to the nation’s schoolchildren. Should the speech have been given in the evening and not in the morning, or should he have given it at all?

Taking school work time away from the students, or opting to let them watch the speech or not, didn’t “make them or break them.”

The president was smart enough to have the flock gathered at the same time, which was the morning. An evening speech would have validated too many excuses: Couldn’t watch because of soccer practice or any other practice; it was dinnertime; bedtime, etc. And evening speech wouldn’t have gathered the flock to the extent that the morning attracted.

Be grateful to have had the president back up what you have been trying to convey to your kids about staying in school to get a better education to live a better life.

Dear parents: Opt not to let your children watch the violence and destruction on TV, and opt not to let the kids play their video games, which are founded on destruction and killing. They are very damaging. You will be doing them a favor and yourself a favor.

You will look back and realize the president’s speech wasn’t damaging.
