Castaic Middle School is presenting "Once Upon a Mattress" as its spring musical today at 7:30 p.m. in its Multi-Purpose Room.

Written in 1959, high schools traditionally have found the musical a popular choice. Adapted from Hans Christian Anderson's story "The Princess and the Pea," the musical tells of a somewhat masculine princess who must win the hand of a sensitive prince over the protests of an overbearing queen mother. The queen does not think the princess is sensitive enough for her son, so she devises the test of the matress and the pea. The queen sets a single pea under twenty mattresses, and if the princess can feel the pea when she lies down, she may marry the prince.

Esteemed Broadway performer Laurel van der Linde has professionally choreographed Castaic Middle School's production, which features may of the finest performers in the district.

Tickets may be bought at the door. Call (661) 257-4550.
