Hart District trying to fill vacancy

The William S. Hart Union High School District is accepting applications from local residents interested in filling a vacancy on the Measure SA Citizens Oversight Committee.

The committee opening comes as member Bob Levine has moved out of the area.

As part of board guidelines, the committee has to have a minimum of seven and a maximum of 17 members, who serve for two-year terms and a maximum of two consecutive terms. Along with filling the opening, the Board of Education may consider selecting a pool of alternate members who could fill future vacancies as they occur.

The committee reviews use of funds from the local $300 million school construction bond passed by local voters in 2008 and reports to the public on whether the funds are being spent as required by law.

The committee meets monthly on the second Tuesday evening, with additional subcommittee meetings as needed. Members represent a cross-section of the community and cannot be employees, vendors, contractors or consultants to the Hart district.

In addition, the law requires that at least one member of the committee represents each of five specific groups: a bona fide taxpayer organization, senior citizens, the business community, a parent organization and a parent with students currently in the district.

Applications are available at the district office at 21515 Centre Pointe Parkway, Santa Clarita, 91350, or can be downloaded from the district Web site at
