The Master's College has been designated a 2008 Best Christian Workplace by the Best Christian Workplaces Institute for a fourth consecutive year.

The institute, a research-based organizational development and human resources consulting firm, awards its certification based on employee survey responses. Employees are asked to rate on a one-to-five scale, five being the highest rating, not only the strength of Christian values in their workplace, but also factors including job satisfaction, supervisory effectiveness, personal growth and development, workplace communication, and pay and benefits. Employers receiving an average score of 4.0 or higher are certified.

The purpose of the certification is to recognize businesses that exemplify the institute's "vision of Christian workplaces setting the standard as the best and most effective workplaces in the world."

Such recognition, however, was not the nondenominational liberal arts college's main reason for asking its 225 employees to complete the survey.

Kent Haney of the college's human resources office explained that The Master's College is a good Christian workplace because of "the commonality as far as what we believe. Everything is centered around Christ, following biblical principles."

He noted, however, that many survey questions also related to workplace qualities that are important to the successful operation of any business.

"We wanted to see how we were progressing, where we need to do better," Haney said.
