The Santa Clarita Valley School Food Service Agency is again implementing Harvest of the Month, a program that connects to core curricular areas and provides educators with materials and resources to motivate students to make healthy choices through hands-on experience with fruits and vegetables and physical activity. The program extends from the classroom and cafeteria to the home and community, promoting healthier habits and futures for students.

Harvest of the Month allows students to taste and explore a different fruit or vegetable each month in the classroom and in the cafeteria. By incorporating different California grown produce into the curriculum each month, students learn about the various nutritional benefits of fruits and vegetables. Students also learn history, fun facts, botanical and growing information, as well as California agriculture and farming industry. Other activities include taste testing, school garden activities and more. Featured produce also will appear each month in the cafeteria, where the child nutrition staff will incorporate them into school breakfast and lunch menus to support HOTM and promote school child nutrition programs.

All schools and the community can access Harvest of the Month materials on the SCVSFSA website
