Hart High School’s award-winning marching band and color guard, Hart Regiment, received top awards in its first two marching band competitions of the season.

On Oct. 10, the band competed in the West Ranch Wildcat Classic at Valencia High and was tournament sweepstakes winner and earned high music, high visual and high general effect honors from the judges.

The color guard was also sweepstakes winner.

It was the first time Hart Regiment performed its winter-themed show, “Alpine,” in its entirety.

On Oct. 17, Hart Regiment performed at the Marching Band Open Series held at Downey High School.

During preliminary competition, the group came in first place in the Onyx division and received the high music award.

During final competition later in the day, the band was sweepstakes winner for the entire competition.

The group also won high music and high general effect honors.

“This is a great way to start the competition season,” Anthony Bailey, band director, said. “I’m so proud of the students’ hard work and dedication.”

Hart Regiment was one of about 30 high school marching bands that competed at the BOA Santa Clarita Regional Championships on Oct. 31 at College of the Canyons.

The final scores show that Hart placed second with 87.30 points, right after Ayala High School, which scored 89.35.

Hart also won the Outstanding Music Performance category.

One of 15 regional championships held across the nation, this year’s event included marching bands from throughout California, Arizona, Nevada and Texas.

Hart Regiment will host the 26th annual Rampage Field Show Tournament on Nov. 7 at College of the Canyons.

The event has traditionally been the only band competition to feature all six William S. Hart Union High School District high schools.

In 2008, Hart Regiment was named state champion in its division by the Southern California School Band & Orchestra Association. (SCSBOA) for the seventh consecutive year — an accomplishment that remains unmatched by any other group.
