About 200 to 300 trees burned or damaged by last October's wind and firestorms are set to be replaced over the summer, a city official said Thursday.

The Santa Clarita City Council this week approved a $170,000 reforestation plan to replace damaged trees citywide.

The majority will be in the Canyon Country area as a result of the Buckweed Fire, said Robert Sartain, a supervising arborist with the city.

As well as replacing trees along Whites Canyon Road, the city is planning to replace 69 charred palm trees along Camp Plenty Road, where more than half of the residents signed a petition requesting that the city remove the trees because they posed a safety hazard.
