The College of the Canyons Center for Applied Competitive Technologies has won the 2007-2008 Exemplary Innovation Award by the California Community College's Economic and Workforce Development program.

The school won for its project FastTrack Manufacturing Boot Camp which prepares risk youth between the ages 18 to 21 for high-paying, high level careers in manufacturing. COC's center works closely on this project with Cerritos College, El Proyecto del Barrio, Aerospace Dynamics International, Inc., and several other industry partners.

The EWD Exemplary Innovation Award recognizes excellent project development relating to entrepreneurship and innovation within the California Community College system.

"There was in impressive list of nominees for this award, so we're really very pleased that our program was chosen," said Pete Bellas, director of the COC CACT. "This kind of recognition will help bring about more industry partnerships and give us more opportunities to serve our students and community."

The next FastTrack Manufacturing Boot Camp is scheduled to begin in July. Contact the COC CACT at (661) 294-9809 for more information
