Pardee ditches holiday lunch for philanthropy

One home development company has opted to ditch its holiday luncheon in order to help victims of domestic violence and more than 100 special needs children.

Pardee Homes representatives presented Tuesday a $500 check donation to The Domestic Violence Center of Santa Clarita Valley.

Pardee’s donation comes not long after the center faced financial hardships in the wake of state budget cuts.

“The outpouring of community support has allowed us to keep our outreach center doors open,” said Nicole Shellcroft, the center’s executive director. “We have been able to sustain the same level of services to the community and our shelter program remains intact.”

The donation will go toward the center’s annual holiday food drive to help local families.

Pardee Homes’ $2,000 support for another local organization will allow the program to host its Santa Day event. Carousel Ranch in Agua Dulce is an equestrian therapy program for children with disabilities.

“Our annual Santa Day event is the one time each year when our special children and their families can enjoy the holidays in the most festive of settings,” said Denise Tomey, Carousel Ranch executive director. “Without Pardee Homes, there wouldn’t be a snow party in Agua Dulce.”

The Santa Day event, hosted Saturday, will feature man-made snow, treats, gifts and a visit from Santa.

Pardee Homes has supported Carousel Ranch for several years and the Domestic Violence Center for two years, said a company official.

“Neighborhoods and cities are built with homes, parks, streets and perhaps most importantly, through offering support to organizations that help those most in need,” said Jim Bizzelle, vice president of community development for Pardee Homes’ Los Angeles/Ventura division.
