Dec. 19

“LETMESAIL” New Year’s Eve Ball is a New York City-themed evening with cocktails, hors d’ ouevres, dinner, dessert bar, live entertainment, dancing, casino games, and a ball drop at midnight, Hyatt Valencia, Town Center Drive, Valencia.  Funds raised will benefit LETMESAIL, a non-profit organization that features programs for teens and adults with disabilities. Cell phones for soldiers drive
Hart High School cheerleaders will collect old cell phones for soldiers, which are recycled with funds used to purchase prepaid calling cards for U.S. troops serving overseas, throughout the month of December. Docent classes for Placerita Center
Placerita Canyon Nature Center Volunteer-Naturalist Training Program Tuesday, Jan. 12, at the Nature Center 19152 West Placerita Canyon Road, Newhall. Sessions run from 9 a.m. - noon Tuesdays and Thursdays through March 11 with a graduation dinner planned for March 27. Topics of the program include the study of native plants, ecology, insects, amphibians, reptiles, birds, mammals, geology, valley history and interpretive techniques. No special background is required.  Other volunteer opportunities are available that do not require the nine-week training program. Early bird team registration due
Now is the time for teams to register to participate in the American Cancer Society’s SCV Relay For Life, scheduled for May 22-23 at Central Park in Saugus. Early bird team registration of $100 is available until Jan. 19, after which team registration is $150. Registration assures a team of a campsite at Relay and allows team members to register and raise funds online. Hospice care volunteers sought

Dog rescue seeks volunteers
The Brittany Foundation, a no-kill sanctuary located in Agua Dulce, is looking for dog lovers to help at their ranch. Duties can include cleaning kennels, walking or playing with dogs, grooming and bathing, repairs, yard work, office work or grant writing, as well as assisting at fundraising and adoption events or baking for bake sales held the fourth Sunday of every month.
