The city of Santa Clarita will begin construction work for its bridge rehabilitation program starting the week of Jan. 4-8, 2010.

Funded entirely through the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act, the estimated $360,000 project will enhance the infrastructure and aesthetics of several local bridges.

The bridge rehabilitation program will focus on improving five local bridges: Lost Canyon Road over Sand Canyon Creek, Soledad Canyon Road over the Santa Clara River, Bouquet Canyon Road over Bouquet Canyon Channel, Sand Canyon over Iron Canyon Creek and Whites Canyon over the Santa Clara River.

"The bridge rehabilitation project will significantly assist in maintaining and improving the infrastructure of some of the City's most frequently traveled bridges," said Mayor Laurene Weste. "Thanks to funding received through the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act, residents will be able to continue to enjoy structurally sound and safe roadways for years to come."

Construction is expected to last 55 working days and will be strategically scheduled to minimally impact traffic flow. Lane closures will be in effect during construction on the affected project bridges.
