Santa Clarita picked up four prestigious awards from the California Park and Recreation Society (CPRS) for the city's recreational endeavors in 2009.

The Santa Clarita Skate Park, S.T.A.R. program for special needs adults, and the city's Camp Clarita Web site were awarded for their outstanding service to the community.

A local resident also received recognition for her work with the city.

Santa Clarita received the CPRS Award of Achievement for its Skate Park for providing a forum for two way communications with the city, allowing community input in the site's design, as well as utilizing specialized skate park designers and builders for the park's implementation.

"The city of Santa Clarita was selected to receive this prestigious award due to its commitment to setting new directions by addressing a community-wide issue to address the city's skating and bicycling needs," said CPRS Executive Director Jane H. Adams.
