Deputies arrested a Simi Valley man suspected of smashing windows of several cars to steal expensive items in Canyon Country earlier this month before hiding them in a stolen vehicle, officials said.

Deputies arrested Colton Yanello, 19, Wednesday evening on suspicion of taking a car without owner’s consent and receiving stolen property, according to a Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

He was also arrested on two felony warrants and a misdemeanor charge of possession of burglary tools, the report said.

Deputies arrested Yanello after spotting his vehicle, which matched a vehicle from video footage from several car burglaries that occurred on Jan. 7 and Jan. 8 in Canyon County, according to the report.

The deputies stopped Yanello’s vehicle, which was stolen out of Ventura, in the 22000 block of Copperhill Drive in Saugus and found more than 80 stolen items and other evidence, according to the report.

The items included purses, wallets, GPS systems, laptop computers and other property.

Detectives believe Yanello might be responsible for other burglaries in the Santa Clarita Valley.

He is being held without bail pending future court proceedings, the report said.
