All the following activities will occur at the SCV Senior Center, unless otherwise indicated.

Aqua Fitness
Through the summer, Linda Bennett, Fitness Director of the SCV Senior Center, will run a Tuesday/Thursday session of Aqua Fitness at the Bouquet Canyon Seniors apartment complex, 26705 Bouquet Canyon Road.

Water walking, cardio, strength and stretching will be done throughout the class. Warm-up begins at 8:30 a.m. The Active class begins at 8:45 a.m.; a slower class will be added if necessary from 10-10:30 a.m., on the same days. Students are asked to bring a towel, aqua shoes, sunscreen and bottled water. The cost is $6/class for those over 60, and $7/class for those under 60. Classes will run through September.

Linda Bennett is a Board Certified ACE fitness instructor, who has dedicated her life to helping others become fit and healthy. She currently specializes in senior fitness and has a knowledgeable team of certified instructors (Nicci Smestad, Lisa Barnes, and Joyce Menta) who work with her to help keep Santa Clarita citizens healthy and fit.

Mobile Solutions Van
The Mobile Solutions Van from the Braille Institute will be available for the visually impaired at the Santa Clarita Valley Senior Center from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. on Thursday, June 26 and Tuesday, July 15. The Braille Institute Van offers a wide variety of services for the visually impaired without the time or trouble of visiting the Braille Institute in Los Angeles. Services include, the sale of assistive devices, library services registration, resource referrals and more.

Caregiver Resource Day
The Supportive Services Department of the Santa Clarita Valley Senior Center is sponsoring a free morning symposium designed to provide assistance to the growing number of caregivers. This public service event takes place on Saturday June 28 from 8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. at the SCV Senior Center, 22900 Market St. in Newhall. This half-day symposium will focus on caregiving issues to enable the attendee to learn new skills to help manage the stresses and frustrations of caregiving, how to reestablish control over their own lives, plan for the future, and manage difficult behaviors by loved ones. Functional Fitness
At 8:30 a.m. M-W-F, we're movin' and groovin', steppin' and sweatin' to the beat with ACE Certified Exercise Specialist Linda Bennett.

We're the new and improved "middle age" 50+ active adults. The program encompasses functional fitness - moves are designed to simulate ADLs (activities of daily living), and sports moves like golf, tennis, and skiing. We do cardiovascular training, muscle and bone building, core stabilization, and spatial awareness for balance - all within one hour. If you're not quite ready for the fast and furious fitness, at 9:45 a.m. there is a great 30-minute chair class that will suit you.

Food for the Soul
Put smiles on the faces and warm the hearts of homebound seniors when you become a Home-Delivered Meal driver. Become a part of our volunteer team to ensure that no senior goes without a meal. Help is desperately needed for as little as two and one-half hours one day a week or even one day a month (Monday through Friday, 10:30 am - 1 p.m.). Vehicles provided. Buffet Bingo

H.I.C.A.P. Counseling
The local H.I.C.A.P. Counselor, Bob Hill, has announced new hours.
Effective June 2, 2008, the counseling hours will change to the following schedule: First Monday of each month, 10 a.m. - noon; second and fourth Mondays of each month, 1 p.m. - 3 p.m. at the SCV Senior Center, 22900 Market Street, Santa Clarita. Services are free of charge. H.I.C.A.P. is short for Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program and is part of the Los Angeles City and County Area Agencies on Aging. The group provides volunteer counselors to help seniors and the disabled with eligibility, sorting through the ever-growing number of programs, and maximizing their use of Medicare.

Notary Services
Notary Public Michael Miller will be providing Notary Public services from 10 a.m.- 2 p.m. every first and third Tuesday of the month at a reduced rate of $8 per signature at the SCV Senior Center.

AARP Driver Safety Program
The AARP Driver Safety Program hosts Driver Safety Training the second Friday, 2 p.m. - 6 p.m. and Saturday 8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. of the month at the Santa Clarita Valley Senior Center, 22900 Market St., Newhall. Four-hour refresher classes are also being offered on a Saturday of alternate months for those who have completed the AARP eight-hour within the past three years. These courses cover the rules of the road as well as safe driving strategies. Completion of either of these classes will earn each participant a three year certificate, and for drivers 55 and over, an auto insurance credit. Info: (661) 259-9444, or

Blood Pressure Clinic first, second and fourth Wednesday of each month.
Free blood pressure screening takes place in activity room 3 each Wednesday from noon-1 p.m.
Free diabetes screening with Lori Ann Robinson, MARD, 12 noon to 1 p.m. last Wednesday of every month.
