Sheriff’s deputies have arrested four teens suspected of tagging at least 377 times in Newhall over the past 11 months, causing more than $160,000 in damage, officials said.

The members of the tagging crew, ages 13 to 15, face felony vandalism charges, a sheriff’s statement said.

After receiving a tip and conducting a months-long investigation, Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station detectives served search warrants at the four teens’ homes in Newhall. They found pens, markers, paint and books that linked them to the crimes, the report said.

The 15-year-old is suspected of causing the bulk of the damage — 240 of the taggings amounting to more than $100,000 in estimated cleanup costs. The other three members were suspected in the remaining incidents, the statement said.

If convicted, the teens and their parents could be ordered to pay the cleanup costs.
