Thirsty mountain lion spotted in Saugus

In this heat, humans are not the only living beings seeking cooler ground. Last week, it was a bear trying to take a swim. This morning, a mountain lion was apparently thirsty.

"It was just walking a little slow," Saugus resident Bob Stahl said. "I think it was thirsty, with this heat and all."

Stahl, who lives on Park Woodland Place, was annoyed this morning when heard a loud leaf blower near his backyard. When he went to close a window to drown out the sound, what he saw outside was not a man with a leaf blower, but instead a mountain lion prowling along a short wall on his property line.

While Stahl's wall is low - about two feet tall, topped with a four-foot wrought iron fence - the mountain lion did not scale the fence to enter his backyard, but instead, walked back into the canyon that abuts his backyard.

The mountain lion was the second wild animal spotted on Park Woodland Place in the past week. On Father's Day, one of Stahl's neighbors, Cindy Morris, told The Signal she discovered a bear trying to take a dip in her pool. Her backyard faces the same canyon as Stahl's.
