A spade's a spade

I am sure that the lives of Alberto Lopez ("Facing the border: A day laborer's story," The Signal, Feb. 7) and other "undocumented aliens" are challenging at best; however, so are the lives of countless Americans who have been paying into the system for years.

I was stunned that Lopez used to be making about $500 weekly for four days' work, but now only makes half of that (which is more than I make, as I am among the unemployed who do not qualify for benefits).

Let's call a spade a spade. He and the others are here illegally and are taking jobs away from the rest of us who so desperately need them.

Since I have been unemployed, I've acquired many skills similar to those of undocumented workers, including tiling, painting and landscaping.

If I were to solicit those skills, how long would it take for me to receive some kind of citation or reprimand?
