Two Palmdale men were killed after their vehicle spun out of control near Acton on Sunday evening, according to the California Highway Patrol. A third Palmdale man was seriously injured.

It was about 11:35 p.m. when Daniel Rivera, 29, lost control of his 1995 Acura as he was driving north on Highway 14 near Puritan Mine Road, according to CHP Officer John Lutz.

Rivera and Hector Grenados, 26, both suffered fatal injuries, while William Rivera, 21, survived but suffered serious injuries, Lutz said. William Rivera was taken to Holy Cross Medical Center for treatment.

Lutz said Daniel Rivera was driving at a high rate of speed when he entered the carpool lane to overtake traffic. After he passed a vehicle, Rivera reportedly switched back into the number one lane, but lost control of his Acura, which spun clockwise into the northbound lanes of Highway 14.

The Acura then crashed through the guardrail along the right shoulder before sliding down a hillside next to the freeway, Lutz said.

Grenados, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected and was immediately killed. Daniel Rivera was wearing a seat belt.

Lutz added that alcohol may have been a factor.
