The works of playwright Christopher Durang are always funny, always shocking and always worth the trip to the theatre. So, it holds true that if you enjoy good theatre with a biting wit, you will want to see The Set Group's new production of "Sister Mary Ignatious Explains It All For You" and "The Actor's Nightmare." Both of these one acts are classic Durang in that they hold the conventions within society up to a very bright light and peer into the depths revealed.

"Sister Mary" shows us, when only dogma is revered, how the confines of narrow thinking and unquestioned ideology can trample humanity. The past comes back to make a visit in the form of three former students, and Sister Mary discovers that life produces varying results, even when her unwavering teachings lead her to believe it won't.

"The Actor's Nightmare" is a one act that every member of the audience can identify with. What if a dream becomes real and you have no way out? George, the unassuming victim, finds himself stuck in a very bizarre and extremely comedic circumstance. Laughter runs rampant until a rather unexpected ending.

Christina Gonzalez has directed both of these pieces keeping the comedic pace rolling for the audience's enjoyment.

The plays open tonight, Friday March 5, at 8 p.m., and play every Friday and Saturday in March, at a new venue, The SCV Space, 27600 Bouquet Canyon Road in Saugus. (La Rumba shopping center).

Tickets are $15 ($10 students) and can be purchased online or at the door. Go to for tickets and information.

The Set Group is a new face on the Santa Clarita theatrical scene promoting edgy, contemporary theatre. The SCV Space is a theatre space that is a home for many arts organizations and businesses that need an economical blank slate to create in.
