No pros in the Olympics

Well, finally the Olympics are over. They were as exciting as a root canal.

Oh, don't get me wrong, there were "some" exciting moments, but with the infusion of "professional" athletes into some of the venues, I have just lost interest in the Olympics.

Watching the hockey matches was just like watching the Stanley Cup playoffs.

I can't remember when this started, but I have read that professionals started entering the Olympics (hockey) around 1998.

I remember when every gifted athlete (amateur) would start dreaming about going to the Olympics and representing his or her country from early childhood. Somewhere along the way, the good old USA lost focus on what the Olympics were all about. I suppose they were afraid of getting outscored in the medal race by the Russkies.

So, they prostituted themselves and went along with the rest of the world by sending professionals to the Olympics (basketball, hockey and wherever else) just for the sake of a few medals.

They gave up their integrity and patriotism. And so many gifted and talented athletes sit on the sidelines watching TV and thinking of what could have been if it had not been for the politics.

Players getting paid millions in the Olympics is wrong. My support for the Olympics is over with.

It's the politicians that just cannot keep their noses out of a good thing. Until it reverts back to 100 percent amateurs, then I give up on the Olympics. They are an embarrassment.

One man's opinion.
