Motorcyclist dies on I-5

Biker from Rancho Santa Margarita flips over center divider near Pyramid Lake

A Rancho Santa Margarita woman was killed after her motorcycle collided with the center divider on Interstate 5 in Osito Canyon near Pyramid Lake just before 11 a.m. Sunday, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Farida Lach, 37, was driving on northbound I-5 when, for unknown reasons, she slammed into the center divider about three miles north of Templin Highway, Officer David Porter said.

While the cause of the collision was unknown, the impact caused Lach to flip over the center divider and land on the southbound side of I-5, Porter said. She was pronounced dead on scene by the county coroner.

Alcohol did not appear to be a factor, according to authorities.

No one else was involved or injured in the crash.

However, two other vehicles were involved in a non-injury collision at the same location as the fatality, though CHP did not confirm whether the two collisions were connected.

A SigAlert was issued between 11:35 a.m. and 1 p.m., as CHP blocked the two far left lanes. All four lanes were closed for approximately 30 minutes during the initial cleanup and investigation. Motorists traveling northbound were jammed on the freeway for more than one hour, as traffic was backed up for more than two miles shortly after the Sig alert was issued.

Since June 22, five people have been killed on local highways and roads.  On June 22, a Palmdale man was killed when he lost control of his motorcycle on Soledad Canyon Road. That same evening, two Palmdale men were killed after their vehicle spun out of control on Highway 14 near Puritan Mine Road. A Canyon Country man was killed Wednesday in Acton when his vehicle was broadsided by another vehicle on Soledad Canyon Road.
