What remained of a dead body was found near a burned vehicle Tuesday night in Agua Dulce, a California Highway Patrol spokesman said.

The body, burned beyond recognition,  was found by a 1992 Pontiac van, Officer Jose Nunez said.

Shortly after 9:45 p.m., the CHP received a call about a grass fire on Briggs Road near Agua Dulce Canyon Road. When officials arrived on the scene, they discovered it was a vehicle fire.

After the fire was put out, officials searched for the driver, who was reportedly discovered a few feet away.
Nunez said the body was charred beyond recognition, and the county Coroner’s Office has been unable to identify the body.

The cause of the fire was unknown as of Wednesday afternoon.

No other injuries or fatalities were reported.

An investigation is ongoing.
