Henry Schultz: Let's take back city government

My name is Henry Schultz and I am a candidate for the City Council.

In talking to various people around town, some questions keep recurring. For example, “Where is your campaign statement on the ballot?” Most folks don’t know that it costs $1,500 to put a statement on the ballot.

Since I’m taking no money for my campaign it’s hard to justify spending that much. My total cost for this campaign will be $200.
I am not beholden to developers or out-of-town donors.

Another question is, “Why do I keep getting these mailers with the three incumbents prominently displayed together with endorsements by every known politician in the local universe?”

If you look closely at these mailers, you will find the following political action committee taking responsibility — Citizens for Integrity in Government (lovely irony). These are the same folks that put out a hit mailer against me in 2006 and donated of $30,000 G&L Realty’s money to Laurie Ender’s campaign in 2008 (I wonder how she voted on that hospital scam?).

The cool thing about the PAC is that it doesn’t have to report its donations until July 31, long after the election is over.

Doesn’t it make you just a little bit nervous to see all these incumbents and trick money glued together like epoxy?

After 12, 12 and eight years, respectively, things can get mighty chummy at City Hall. The developers don’t seem to mind.

We’ve had a ton of over-dense development and if the incumbents stay on there will be more. No to mention more traffic and crowded schools to go with it.

Let’s put a stop to this once and for all by throwing the incumbents out and bringing on a new day in the Santa Clarita Valley.

Vote for me, Henry Schultz, to end this cozy situation at the City Council. I have been parks and recreation commissioner, served on the City Transportation Advisory Committee and serve on the city’s Open Space Audit Panel. My experience in management and business is substantial, and I have been a Boy Scout scoutmaster and SCV Sierra Club chair.

I have resided in the Santa Clarita Valley for 30 years.

The most common question I get is, who should you vote for besides me? Certainly no incumbent. Of the other non-incumbents, a good bet would be the two whose signs you see most around the SCV.

Let’s take back our city government.
