It is hard to believe that it was more than four years ago when most Santa Clarita residents, including myself, did not know much about TimBen Boydston.

All that changed in December 2006, when the Santa Clarita City Council appointed Boydston to serve the remainder of Cameron Smyth’s term of office. As a condition of accepting that appointment Boydston gave his commitment not to be a City Council candidate in 2008.

Boydston was true to his word and did not run for City Council in 2008.

When his Santa Clarita City Council appointment expired, many of us reflected on what we had witnessed during those 16 months. We had watched Boydston take on controversial issues, promote healthy City Council dialogue by asking penetrating questions, work to uphold the preservation of existing neighborhoods and support local citizen groups.

We realized that his presence and leadership made City Council meetings interesting and more importantly meaningful.

Then on April 19, 2008 the Canyon Country Advisory Committee unanimously voted Boydston a “Santa Clarita hometown hero in recognition of his outstanding effort representing all of our communities, while serving on the Santa Clarita City Council from December 2006 through April 2008.”

Fast-forward to 2010, and Boydston decided to run for a seat on the City Council. I immediately realized Santa Clarita could again be fortunate enough to enlist his energy, integrity and desire to serve all of Santa Clarita’s residents. Boydston has shown his deeds match his words. That attribute is one of the most important behaviors an elected official can display.

I know he can be counted on to help maintain Santa Clarita as a great place to live, work and play. That is why I have endorsed Boydston as a candidate for the Santa Clarita City Council.

So, please remember to vote Tuesday and mark your ballot for Boydston, a true “Santa Clarita hometown hero.”
