The local Santa Clarita Casting Club holds casting clinics for those new to fly fishing as well as veterans.

‘The Wholly Communion' People's Choice Sermon Series
Pastor Stan Fix of The Friendly Valley Community Church (United Methodist) will start the "The Wholly Communion" People's Choice Sermon Series. Fellowship and coffee will follow the service. All are welcome.

The Gentle Barn Foundation
The Gentle Barn Foundation holds a day for the family where guests can come see and play with all kinds of rescued animals, while hearing their stories. $5 donation per person requested.

Santa Clarita's Pet Expo USA
Pet Expo showcases the latest and greatest in pet care and safety. The event includes food, music and entertainment for the entire family. A portion of proceeds support a variety of rescues and adoptions.

Wiz Bang Boom tour
Champions Science Adventures holds a five-week mobile tour to bring award-winning science showcase to children and families. It includes a high-energy, 15-minute stage show, as well as interactive, hands-on experiments and entertainment for the whole family.

Taste of the Town
Taste of the Town is a fundraiser for Child and Family Center and a partnership with the SCV's premier food and beverage establishments. An admission ticket gets you all-you-can-eat food and beverages, live entertainment, chef demonstrations and more.

Miss SCV Queen's boutique
Miss Santa Clarita Valley and her court host a boutique with a variety of vendors. Free and open to the public. Nice attire required to attend.

30th Miss Santa Clarita Valley pageant
Pageant to decide who will be the next Miss Santa Clarita Valley that receives a $1,000 cash scholarship. The theme this year is "Island Girls." Guests are invited to wear tropical colors and floral prints. There will also be a live reggae band.

Global-warming presentation
Presentation on global warming by Dr. Jeff Zweerink, University of California Los Angeles astrophysicist and speaker with "Reasons to Believe," a group of scientists who work to relate science and faith.

Don't go there
The California Department of Transportation closes Highway 14 and Interstate 5 lanes, ramps and connectors as part of a $161-million improvement project to construct carpool lanes and a direct carpool lane connector at the I-5 and Highway 14 interchange.
When: Through Friday
Where/When: Highway 14: Carpool connector from southbound Highway 14 to I-5: 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.; I-5: Southbound truck route collector road: 11 p.m. to 4 a.m.
