Center's hotline needs volunteers
The Domestic Violence Center of the Santa Clarita Valley is seeking volunteers to help answer the 24-hour hotline that provides emergency help for domestic violence related callers. Volunteers will need to complete a special 40-hour training course in order to answer the local hotline. The Santa Clarita Valley Domestic Violence Center is the only one of its kind in the region, providing a 24-hour hotline, a local shelter house, individual and group counseling services as well as emergency help for victims of domestic violence. Dates for the complete 40-hour training at Haven Hills are: June 13,16,20,30 and July 7,11,14,18. Volunteers would need to attend each of the eight training dates. LARC Ranch Benefit Ride
Bikers for Christ will stage the third annual LARC Ranch Benefit ride on Saturday, May 1 to raise funds for LARC's programs and services for developmentally disabled individuals. Biker registration opens at 9 a.m. and the ride begins 10 a.m. at Cycle Gear, 24508 Lyons Ave., Newhall. Riders will be provided free coffee and pastries before they take to the road. The ride ends at LARC Ranch, 29890 Bouquet Canyon Road, Saugus, where lunch will be catered. Cost is $25 per rider and $15 per passenger, and included are a poker hand, ride pins for the first 100 riders, raffle tickets and lunch. The high poker hand wins $100 and the low hand wins $50.
