Sacramento - Assemblyman Cameron Smyth (R-Santa Clarita) hired Paul B. Strickland today as his Santa Clarita Valley field representative to replace Ed Masterson, who recently accepted a position as interim president of the Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce.

Strickland will begin working in Smyth's district office on June 1.

Before joining Smyth's office, Strickland worked in the entertainment and media industries and spent more than 20 years as an animation producer.

He has authored a regular political column for The Signal and has hosted "Thursday Matinee" on radio station KHTS-AM 1220.

Strickland was a member of the William S. Hart Union High School District Governing Board for the last nine years, and served one term as president. He is also the former president of the Hart District Advisory Committee.

A resident of the Santa Clarita Valley for 26 years, Strickland brings with him the experience to effectively convey Assemblyman Smyth's agenda to the community, according to Smyth.

"Our team in the district office has a wealth of knowledge and a variety of experiences regarding issues affecting our community," Smyth said.

"Paul Strickland will contribute immediately and effectively to the outreach and constituent services that my district office provides," Smyth said. "I have known Paul for many years, and I value his political acumen, leadership skills, and integrity. It is a great opportunity to add someone with his experience to my staff. Paul will be an asset to my office and to the Santa Clarita Valley."
