My take on the hospital issue

I'd like to raise some questions about the logic and tone of your "Getting serious about the hospital" editorial in the May 9 edition, which ends in the unwarranted bashing of SCOPE (of which I am not a member).

First, you make the statement that the hospital expansion has by and large met with support from the community, with absolutely no supporting evidence. If evidence is not required to make a point, I submit the opposite is true.

I've lived here for 20 years, and other than those who work at the hospital, I have yet to speak with any resident who is in favor of this project.

Your statement that the hospital project has been approved by the city is not entirely accurate either. It has been approved by the City Council. Your statement vis-a-vis the city implies that 100,000 residents have given this project their overwhelming approval, when in actuality, it is only a handful of bureaucrats have given it the go-ahead.

These statements are then used as the basis to support your request that you hope SCOPE will endeavor to find solutions through more civil means than constant lawsuits. How self-righteous.

Allow me to make my point using only one fact which I can support. If SCOPE had access to the combined $50,000 G&L Realty has given to Santa Clarita's City Council members in campaign donations - to secure their election and therefore their support of the hospital expansion - perhaps SCOPE could afford to use other means than constant lawsuits to achieve its goal.

That's why I submit to you, that if there are indeed any staunch special-interest groups among us as you put it, the only one I am aware of is located at 23920 Valencia Boulevard.
