Thanks for your help

On May 8, the local post offices were busier than normal as letter carriers not only delivered the normal mail, but collected food donations on their routes during the National Association of Letter Carriers' annual "Stamp Out Hunger!" food drive.

Thank you to the letter carriers of Santa Clarita for your time and efforts in collecting the approximately 25 tons of food to help ensure that "no child in the Santa Clarita Valley should go to bed hungry."

Thank you to the generous volunteers from Boston Scientific, Mormon "Helping Hands," OLPH Knights of Columbus, Real Life Church, Boy Scout Troop No. 499 and the many individuals who were there to help collect and transport Saturday's donations for the Santa Clarita Valley Food Pantry.

These donations help sustain us through the summer months, when the need for our services is at its highest level, since children are out of school and cannot take part in the free breakfast or lunch programs they provide, and donations are historically at their lowest of the year.

It's only through the kind donations of others that the Santa Clarita Valley Food Pantry has helped our neighbors in need for the past 24 years, distributing supplemental food to 6,501 (unduplicated) individuals in 2009 alone.

On behalf of the Santa Clarita Valley Food Pantry and the clients we serve, thank you, Santa Clarita, for your continued generosity and your commitment to help those less fortunate in our community.
