SCV photographers association holds spring print competition

April Bielefeldt wins 'Best in Show'

The Santa Clarita Valley Photographers Association, a local organization for professional and amateur photographers, held its spring 2010 print competition Saturday, May 22, at the Bridgeport clubhouse in Valencia.

This year's Best in Show prize went to April Bielefeldt's image, "Santa Monica, 2010." The image also won first place in the Landscape category and a Judge's Choice ribbon.

Other first-place ribbons were awarded in the following categories:

-- Animals: "Portrait in Blue," Bob Kogen (also Judges Choice)
-- Portrait: "Mr. Russell," Ted Dayton (also Judges Choice)
-- Photojournalism, Event & Editorial: "Honor and Respect," Robert Mance
-- Macro & Close-Up: "Beautiful Spring Rosebud," Jim Akers
-- Architectural, Design & Still Life: (tie), "Ventura Pier 2700," Larry White; "Continental Supersports," Mike Finklestein
-- Nature: (tie) "Journey to the Center of the Earth," Douglas Meek; "An Autumn Place," Larry White.
-- Digital Manipulation, Freestyle and Fine Art: "Polar Express," Bob Kogen
-- Judge's Choice: "Emmett Hardin, Buffalo Soldier, Allensworth State Historical Park," Clark Campbell
-- Student: (tie) "Wilson" and "Rainy Day," Anastasia Doukakis

A panel of four judges featured several nationally recognized photographers, including Robert Glenn Ketchum, Tom Paiva, Don Weinstein and Michael Gordon.

Bielefeldt's multiple award-winning print coincides with her election to president of the SCVPA. Her term begins June 1.

The Santa Clarita Valley Photographers Association is an organization dedicated to the advancing of the business and art of photography. It meets at 6:45 p.m., the second Tuesday of each month at Santa Clarita Camera.
