Questions for the council

Paul Brotzman, Santa Clarita's director of community development, titled his May 20 column "Preserving our community's character is priority one."

Why, then, would the city of Santa Clarita aggressively act to destroy the character of Placerita Canyon by planning an at-grade crossing for Lyons Avenue?

The Planning Commission has already dropped the ball by even considering it. The lawyer from the Placerita Canyon Property Owners Association indicated that the staged environmental impact report illegally bypasses the California Environmental Quality Act. This matter should be set aside until there is a reason for proceeding. The crossing is only needed for one thing, and that is so that a Casden (Properties) development can be built with high-density in a floodway.

In fact, Casden is funding (the study for) the at-grade crossing. The Public Utilities Commission will be asked to consider this crossing with no project existing to support it.

What should happen is that Casden present a project to the city with the crossing request included, so that all the information is provided for decisions to be made. The city will argue that the crossing is needed independent of any Casden project.

Balderdash! Casden's money flows downhill to City Hall. Brotzman, and by simple extrapolation, his boss (City Manager) Ken Pulskamp, and his boss, the City Council, are implicated in this devilish plot to create wealth for Casden in what is likely to be the worst project proposal since Las Lomas.

Let's find out why our city manager and City Council want to crush Placerita for filthy lucre.

And where are the folks from Placerita Canyon putting big time pressure on the city?

Ask the City Council why it supports this developer in its quest to destroy the character of your canyon.
