SAN FERNANDO — The mother of a newborn girl found dead in a trash bin appeared Thursday morning in a San Fernando courthouse for a pretrial conference, only to have the judge reschedule the hearing for July 23 in Department G.

Nearly two years after she was charged with murder and assault on a child for allegedly dumping her dead newborn daughter in a trash bin, Jacqueline Linaras will return to court next week, as attorneys will argue a series of motions before the matter potentially moves to trial. Superior Court Judge Alice Hill will oversee the proceedings.

Linaras, who turns 25 on July 22, is charged with killing her newborn on May 1, 2006. The body was found by a resident searching for recyclables in a trash bin the next day near Linaras’ home in the Polynesian Mobile Home Park in Newhall.

If convicted, Linaras would face 25 years to life in prison.
