Inauguration Day

Flag Day
The Elks’ Flag Day ceremony tells the history of the American flag. After the ceremony, local Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts will be retiring worn and tattered flags in the backyard. Admission is free, and there will be hot dogs, chips, drinks and cookies for all Scouts and anyone in uniform.

The California Department of Transportation closes Highway 14 and Interstate 5 lanes, ramps and connectors as part of a $161-million improvement project to construct carpool lanes and a direct carpool lane connector at the I-5 and Highway 14 interchange.

Keep naps, banking separate

ELLENSBURG, Washington (AP) - Police in Ellensburg, Wash., said a man looking for a place to sleep broke into the basement of a bank, and - yes - he had been drinking. Surveillance video shows the man breaking a basement window about 3 a.m. Saturday and leaving before 8 a.m.

Police tracked down the 21-year-old by Tuesday and arrested him at his home for investigation of second-degree burglary and malicious mischief.

Capt. Dan Hansberry said the man was intoxicated and doesn't know why he went to the bank to snooze.
