Show off your hot rod; help a disabled teen or adult.

The nonprofit organization LETMESAIL is hoping that exchange will lure in funds this Saturday for therapeutic, social, recreational and educational programs for the 218 individuals it serves annually.

Battle of the Rides, to be hosted at Saugus Speedway Saturday from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m., will showcase more than 200 radical custom cars, motorcycles and exotic street machines, which will compete for trophies in nine separate categories.

A panel of expert judges will vote on the entries and a People’s Choice award will also grant attendees their own vote for a favorite.

All show vehicles will compete together in two trophy classes: Best Paint and Most Outrageous. Best in Class will be handed out in six categories: classics, customs, muscle cars, street racers, exotics and motorcycles.

From those class winners, judges will name a single champion, Best in Show.

LETMESAIL Executive Director Pam Sorlagas said the organization was looking for a fresh means to raise money and provide community entertainment that strays from the traditional golf tournament or gala dinner.

“It’s necessary to find new and creative ways to raise funds, especially now,” Sorlagas said. “With the economy, everyone’s spending and giving has been affected.”

The funds will directly benefit the organization’s programs. The Santa Clarita-based nonprofit aims to help teens and adults with disabilities lead more independent, enriched lives through its programs.

“We want to make (the event) something that is affordable, where people can donate and know they’re impacting the lives of those with disabilities,” Sorlagas said.

The event will also feature live entertainment, gourmet food trucks, vehicle accessory displays, a video-game truck and other interactive activities.

“With the variety of vehicles, food, entertainment and activities, Battle of the Rides will have something for everyone,” Sorlagas said. “So bring out the whole family for a lot of fun and a great cause.”
