The city of Santa Clarita selected the works of eight local artists to decorate bus shelters around the city leading up to the Festival of the Arts in October.

The chosen artwork will be featured in September on 10 transit-bus shelters throughout Santa Clarita to celebrate the upcoming event.

The artists whose work was selected are Naomi Scully, Geraldine Jouvin, Barbara Carter, Natalie Franco, Natali Pineda Pezzini, Bob Hernandez, Ioana Urma and Cha-Rie Tang.

The city’s Arts and Events Office and the Santa Clarita Arts Commission released a “Call for Artists” to seek artwork for the public art project.

Artists who submitted work used a variety of techniques including photography, painting and multimedia to express the theme, “A Fresh Look.”

“There is a tremendous amount of talent in this city, and the selected artworks truly show that the arts are alive in our community,” said Councilwoman Marsha McLean in a written statement.

Each artist will also have his or her work featured during the Festival of the Arts weekend, Oct. 2 and 3, in Old Town Newhall. Each will also receive a $200 stipend.

During the festival, visual, multimedia, and alternative artisans will create art from conception to completion.
