Two SuperScooper fixed-wing aircraft have been leased to the Los Angeles County Fire Department to help protect county residents and property during fire season.

The two Canadian craft can each carry up to 1,620 gallons of water, according to a news release from Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich’s office. SuperScoopers inject fire-resistant foam that is more effective at putting out fire than water alone.

The SuperScoopers should arrive in Los Angeles from Canada by Sept. 1 and will be used through Nov. 31.
