California Highway Patrol officials Tuesday were investigating why a patrol car flipped off the road in Newhall.

CHP Officer Terrance Roach was responding to a call for assistance about 4 p.m. Monday when he lost control of the patrol car on Placerita Canyon Road, Sgt. Jeff Ferber said.

The car left the road, hit a power pole and flipped over, Ferber said.

Roach was driving with an Explorer Scout passenger on the road just north of Placerita Canyon Nature Center, Ferber said.

Neither Roach nor the passenger was injured but the CHP cruiser was totaled, the sergeant said.
