Don’t be so nasty

Earlier this week, I commented to my wife that one of the letters to the editor went beyond being just opinionated; it was insulting. Today I find another example of a truly poison pen: “American values” by Robert P. Davenport II (June 19).

This kind of polemic is so filled with venomous and caustic comments I wonder if The Signal has a shortage of submittals. We all enjoy spirited debate and reading opposing viewpoints, but streams of endless insults are both unnecessary and unwanted.

In case you missed the venom, here a few of over-the-top phrases in this nasty piece of work: “sniveling boot-licking corporate lackey persona,” “shameless spineless corporatist,” “intellectually deficient slogans,” “wannabe populists” and “aging middle-class cowards.”

I encourage the editorial board of The Signal to adopt a new policy: “We will not publish letters which contain insults.”

Unfortunately for the writer of the referenced letter, his bias overwhelms his message.
