‘Let’s go to the beach’

What: The city of Santa Clarita Transit provides bus service to and from Santa Monica. Costs $3 for all children and adults, $1.50 for senior citizens (60+) and persons with disabilities (with proper ID). See website for routes and pickup locations.

Senior driver program
American Association of Retired People driver safety program refresher class qualifies participants 55 and over for three year automobile insurance credit. Registration required.

YMCA SplashFest 2010
The Santa Clarita Valley Family YMCA hosts SplashFest 2010. Includes lots of summer-themed activities and water games for kids. Free and open to the community.

‘Newhallywood on Location’
Taught by E.J. Stephens, “Newhallywood on Location: History of Film/TV in the SCV” will highlight the hundreds of television and film locations featured since the earliest days of cinema. Third in a four-class series, costs $50. Classes will be held at various locations.

Magic show
Ring 280 of the International Brotherhood of Magicians presents its fourth annual magic show benefiting the Boys & Girls Club of Santa Clarita Valley. Tickets are $10 per person. Ages 3 and under get in for free.
When: Doors open at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. Show begins at 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

‘Water 101’
Castaic Lake Water Agency hosts a workshop to talk about water.

Santa Clarita Skyhawks
The Santa Clarita Skyhawks host a home game. The group plays football and raises awareness and money for children with cancer.

The city of Santa Clarita holds their free annual “Concerts in the Park” series with Fantastic Diamond headlining.

Shakespeare in the Park

Ten years ago:
President Bill Clinton continued to mediate the Camp David Mideast summit. Michael Stone, a pro-British paramilitary member, was freed from prison as part of Northern Ireland’s 1998 peace accord after serving 11 years of a life sentence for murder. (Stone received a 16-year sentence in 2008 for attempting to kill Catholic politicians in a televised one-man attack on the Northern Ireland legislature.)
