Senior Center Rummage Sale
The Advisory Council at the Santa Clarita Valley Senior Center, 22900 Market Street, in the Newhall area has initiated a monthly Rummage Sale on the first Tuesday and Wednesday of each month. The dates for August are the 5th and 6th, and for September will be 2nd and 3rd. The hours are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. both days. Items may be donated on the preceding Friday and Monday each month at 8:00 a.m. No books, large appliances, TVs, automotive parts or accessories, or any form of "green" waste will be accepted.
All funds raised benefit the SCV Senior Center. So reduce, reuse, recycle, and support your local senior center!

Senior Center Cinema
Showing the BUCKET LIST on Wednesday August 13 at 2:15 p.m. starring Jack Lemmon and Morgan Freeman. Donation $1.00 popcorn $.25 parking free. All are welcome. 22900 Market St. Newhall. For information call (661) 259 9444.

Consumer Lectures
Wednesday, August 6, Cardiologist Dr. Robert Horth will present current information on "Hypertension," from 1 to 2 p.m. in Activity Rooms 1 & 2 of the SCV Senior Center, 22900 Market Street.
Wednesday, August 13, "Skin Cancer," presented by Dr. Vijay Trisal, an oncologist from Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital.
Wednesday, August 20, financial advisor Brian Cunningham will speak on "Safe Investments for Your Money & How to Tell the Difference."
Wednesday, August 27, Dr. Gururaja, will speak on "Healthy Eating & Exercise" courtesy of Providence Holy Cross Medical Center.
All lectures are from 1 to 2 p.m. in Activity Rooms 1 & 2 of the SCV Senior Center, 22900 Market Street.
In addition, the following free health clinics will be offered at the SCV Senior Center:
Tuesday, August 5, Hearing Clinic from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. courtesy of Audiology Associates in the Respite Office.
Free blood pressure screening takes place in Activity Room 3 each Wednesday from 12 to 1 p.m.

H.I.C.A.P. Counseling
The local H.I.C.A.P. Counselor, Bob Hill, has announced new hours. Effective June 2, 2008, the counseling hours will change to the following schedule: First Monday of each month, 10 a.m. - noon; second and fourth Mondays of each month, 1 p.m. - 3 p.m. at the SCV Senior Center, 22900 Market Street, Santa Clarita. Services are free of charge. H.I.C.A.P. is short for Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program and is part of the Los Angeles City and County Area Agencies on Aging. The group provides volunteer counselors to help seniors and the disabled with eligibility, sorting through the ever-growing number of programs, and maximizing their use of Medicare. Notary Services
Notary Public Michael Miller will be providing Notary Public services from 10 a.m.- 2 p.m. every first and third Tuesday of the month at a reduced rate of $8 per signature at the SCV Senior Center.

Health Clinics
Blood Pressure Clinic first, second and fourth Wednesday of each month.
Free blood pressure screening takes place in activity room 3 each Wednesday from noon-1 p.m.
Free diabetes screening with Lori Ann Robinson, MARD, 12 noon to 1 p.m. last Wednesday of every month.

Educational & Technical Training
Archeology and Anthropology: Wednesday, 9:30-11:10 a.m. with Fred Rice of USC and Cal State Northridge.
Computer Training (Beginning, Intermediate, Advanced in Windows and
Mac): Call the Center for Information.
Computer Training for the Visually Impaired: Monday, 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m., Friday, 12-2 p.m.
Ham Radio: Tuesday, 1-2 p.m.
