Welcome to August! One month closer to summer being over and temperature sanity returning! I’m really done with the “heat waves.”

Kudos to Leaders of Character
The Boy Scouts of America have announced the honorees for the Third Annual Santa Clarita Valley Leaders of Character Recognition dinner to be held Sept 27 at the Hyatt Valencia. The list of distinguished honorees from Santa Clarita Valley business, government and philanthropy include Bob Kellar, Harold and Jacquie Petersen, as well as Larry and Peggy Rasmussen. The honor is presented annually to individuals and couples who personify the character, values, and leadership demonstrated in the Boy Scout Oath and Law in their daily life. Past recipients include Gary and Myrna Condie, Carl and Jeri Goldman, Kevin and Marilyn Malone, Larry G. and Sue Mankin, Dianne and Roger Van Hook and Jim Ventress. For attendance or sponsorship inquiries contact Wes Patterson at (818) 933-0120 or

It’s the year of the Petersens
I think I dubbed last year “the year of Wayne Crawford” after he was tapped to be the Elks roastee and the Silver Spur awardee. This year it is the year of the Petersens. Harold and Jacquie not only are “Leaders of Character” they are also the College of the Canyons Foundation 2009 Silver Spur honorees. Well deserved, too!
