Newspaper veteran Jana Adkins has been appointed business editor for The Signal and will focus the section on local business interests, Executive Editor Lila Littlejohn announced Monday.

Adkins served on the business side of the Los Angeles Times, managing advertising sales, project improvements, advertising operations and production at multiple sites over a 30-year period with the publishing company.

She also established the operations for a startup company that manufactured digital coupons for promotional purposes.

“Jana is well versed in running and managing business operations, which makes her very suited to understanding the challenges and obstacles businesses face on a daily basis,” said Littlejohn.

In her new position, Adkins will re-shape The Signal’s Business Section to reflect the local business community.

“I am really excited to have the opportunity to develop content for the Business Section,” Adkins said.

“My goal is to spark reader interest in both the business and consumer communities by covering local businesses and adding new features so readers find variety in the section.”

Among Adkins’ goals are publishing more briefs about local business events, promotions and awards, as well as a weekly calendar of events.

“I encourage the business community to help shape this section by sending me tips, leads, ideas, suggestions and press releases to,” Adkins said.

Originally from Seattle, Adkins attended the University of Washington, later relocating to the Los Angeles area. Adkins, with her husband, John, and daughter Meghan, have lived in Santa Clarita since 1994.
