‘Total Spiritual Fitness' set at Friendly Valley
With the opening of the Olympics, on Sunday at 10 a.m., Stan Fix of the Friendly Valley Community Church will present a message on "Total spiritual fitness." The church, located at 19246 Avenue of the Oaks in Newhall, serves Friendly Valley and the surrounding area.

Temple Beth Ami heading to beach
Temple Beth Ami will host a day at the beach today at 4 p.m. The afternoon event will take place at Marina Park in Ventura, located off Highway 126. Guests are welcome to bring a picnic dinner. For more information, call (661) 255-6410.

Jewish Holiday of Love planned
Jewlicious and JconnectLA will host a celebration of the Jewish Holiday of Love on Aug. 14 from 8:30 p.m. to 1 a.m. at Fu's Palace Restaurant in Los Angeles. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door and include the first drink ticket. Students with ID can get in for $15.

Sermon focuses on ‘Games people play'
Pastor Bill Barnes at the First Presbyterian Church of Newhall will preach a sermon series titled, "Games we play when it all goes back in the box anyway." The sermon will run through Aug. 31. Worship services are at 9 a.m. traditional and 10:45 a.m. contemporary style. The First Presbyterian Church of Newhall is located at 24317 N. Newhall Ave. in Newhall.

Meditation services now held monthly
Jonathan Kraut, a local Buddhist, is offering meditation services on the second Thursday of every month at his home sanctuary in Canyon Country. For more information and directions, call Jonathan at (661) 618-1105.

New Nazarene hosts Hope-n-Mic
Every third Thursday of the month, Newhall Church of the Nazarene hosts "Hope-n-Mic," a new open mic forum for Christian musicians and their friends. Guests are invited to come and play their music or to stop in and listen. All ages and musical styles are welcome, provided the lyrics are appropriate to a Christian audience. Piano, keyboard, amps, sound system and drums are provided.

Oak Hill Bible offers men's retreat
Oak Hill Bible Church, a nondenominational Christian church, will hold its first men's retreat Sept. 26 to 29 at New Melones Lake in central California. Daily Bible lessons, prayer and fellowship will be the focus of the trip. Houseboats will be utilized to maximize the camaraderie of men seeking a closer relationship with God.
