Embarrassed indeed

In response to "The anti-incumbency aftermath," (Sept. 19): Santa Clarita City Councilwoman Marsha McLean should be embarrassed, but for different reasons. She should be embarrassed that her handling of Planning Commissioner Dianne Trautman revealed hypocrisy and a lack of integrity.

She should be embarrassed that the City Council is blatant about "quid pro quo" politics.

McLean voted to eliminate term limits for commissioners because she "valued the wisdom of experience." She was quoted as saying Trautman did a good job.

It's very sad when experience and good performance gets you fired because of the way you voted.

McLean, in essence, just loudly proclaimed to all who will listen: Politics first, integrity second.

In a companion article, new Planning Commissioner Lisa Eichman said she's going in with an open mind. Eichman, that's the kind of thinking that will get you thrown under the bus. The council is not looking for "an open mind."

This also makes it clear that the council is not looking for any independent thought on the Planning Commission. They want puppets who will not stand in the way of the council advancing its agenda.

McLean should be embarrassed. By the lack of integrity and character she revealed in this process. There is nothing embarrassing about supporting someone you think has done a good job.

If Trautman's nomination for another term was not approved because Mayor Laurene Weste and council members Frank Ferry and Laurie Ender didn't like the way she voted, so be it. That reveals something about them. McLean's action has certainly revealed something about her.
